Reported in another thread but surely worth its own thread.

Bloody superb.....

Sounds as though he's already planning for next season....alongside his Head of Scouting....whoever that is :?:

I would be more than happy to have Derek here again next season.. The club need some continuity right now and surely this can only help

Would also give Derek more time to get a squad together before next season (budget allowing)

That's good news. I wonder what his contract is? When he returned, it was said to be a 'rolling contract', I wonder if it is a longer one, or, if the 'rolling' is quite a long time? Huge difference between a one-month rolling contract and a twelve-month rolling contract!

Excellent news, and gives me hope for our future. I'm sure Derek would have run for the hills if there wasn't some real likelihood of good news on the ownership front. I'm sure he won't want to have to go through the fiasco of the last year again. So it's hopeful that we'll have new owners very soon, and that Derek will have a workable budget for the transfer window.

Derek as just said in his Chesterfield interview that he is staying next season... Also said quite a few players will be staying as well (possibly the likes of Songo, White etc)

At last some good news in what's been a tough week

Possibly an influx of double figures in terms of new players.

Wonder who fellow SVers would keep :?:

For me it would be White Taylor Angol McAdam Stott A Lewis Edwards Hendrie Moore and possibly Slew and Songo

As for areas that ned a stronger and physical presence are strikers and a more combative midfield who will become the dominant force so obviously missing this season.

I think it makes sense for both parties. Derek is unlikely to get any L2 offers and he now has time to identify targets, even if the usual budget nonsense is going to happen. You'd like to think though at least some of the Chelsea money will stabilise things. Maybe offer contracts to the best 6-8 players from this season and have something to build around.

Derek is on a rolling monthly contract which suits all parties under the current circumstances and terrible uncertain ownership. When he returned he announced this and that it suited all and added that a contract is meaningless nowadays anyway as managers still come and go regardless. Top manager imo, given a reasonable budget he will certainly do his best, we will no doubt punch above our weight in relation to budget once again. We all want a season of good football and/or challenging but the club is a mess as it stands and the overall structure needs to be addressed but Derek is an honest guy, will give it his all, has good contacts and is grateful to Rod and co for bringing him back

Derek said he has signed a contract, he didn’t elaborate if it was a monthly one or a full time contract.

Maybe if 7-11 of this seasons squad is staying as well as Derek says, it will give us a nucleus to build a squad for next season.

Maybe:-
Burgoyne. Just lean how to come and catch a ball and he will be so much better; Squad player.
Hendrie. Surprised me how he grew throughout the season till he got injured; First team player.
A Lewis. Great season, great left foot. First team player.
Scott. A steady Eddie. Squad player
White. Turned out our best player. First team player.
Macadam. Played best as a holding player. Squad player.
Edward’s. God I wish he could stay fit. Squad player.
Songo’o. Still can’t offer something. Squad player.
Angol. I bloody nuisance who has a goal in them. First team.
Dallas. Just needs to find some consistency. Squad player.
Hope. A very very wild card, put some good games in on the right late season, wild card Squad player!

Thought Dallas was on loan from Barnsley? Moore also had an option in his contract.....but can he stay fit?

It would be very unfair to extend Moore's contract and not Burgoyne's considering he played the majority of the season. I'll admit, when he has played, Moore has looked the better of the 2 but for a goalkeeper his injury record has been awful and I don't think we can afford that.

Burgoyne isn't great but he's serviceable, I think he stays at least as backup.

Schofield looked fine but didn't really see enough of him to make an informed decision. Happy to give him a chance also if the financials make sense.

I expect former keeper Ripley to ve available next season. If we can afford him then he'd be an ideal No1 for me. He still lives in Clitheroe area so ideal for his family life

Yes your right Dallas is on loan.

I know he’s not a forward but Taylor could be a good squad player instead.

I'd expect he'll still be able to attract an EFL club. Not sure how much Port Vale or Swindon took to him

I wonder if Jake Taylor would be available after seemingly taking a year out of football. Although injury prone he was a tidy and versatile player and will almost certainly have to drop down to the national league at least.

Pleased with DA stopping! The one thing we need at the moment is stability and DA will give us that in difficult times. My other choice would have been Coley and Jimmy Bell. Always hoped Coley might return one day as manager! However they didn't set the world on fire at Gillingham and I suppose it's debatable whether they still have that magic that took Accy from non league to EFL 1.

I'd have Burgoyne as first choice keeper. Error prone, but a good shot stopper and improved as the season went on, turning in a couple of [in my mind] MotM performances. National League is probably his level.

Even if the budget is sorted early (fingers crossed) at very best it will only match this season's, so we will still be basement shopping. Moore is a good keeper and comes across as a decent guy, but too injury prone to take a chance on.

White is a definite to sign. Stott would be up there too. I'd keep both Songo'o & Slew for the experience they bring, even if they are not going to play week in, week out. Hendrie was the most improved player, and up to his injury, was probably Player of the Season for me. If he recovers from the injury, I'd definitely try to keep him. If Tutonda can learn to keep his head, then he'd do well in the National League. Any new contract should include a fine of a week's wages for every yellow card for dissent!

Basically, despite relegation, I'm not going to be unhappy with any of the current squad re-signing, they are all National League standard. We just need someone up front who knows where the goal is.

I'd say the same really. We had a national league squad who could probably be fairly competitive in the national league. Few of them have set the World alight this season, so won't be getting scouted by L2 teams, probably not even by other NL league teams. I think the most likely to stay are Slew and Yann as they've tended to follow Derek and are now at the end of their careers, and would be excellent for continuity and experience. The only one I'd not want to stay is Tutonda due to his inability to control himself - we really don't want players picking up yellow and red cards for no real reason - we need more intelligent players than that, not hot heads. Can't see us keeping any loan players at all. I'd expect, maybe around half our own players to stay and half to move on, so maybe a maximum of 7-8 existing players staying, but only if we don't have to let everyone go again after the last game as we've had to do in the past 2 years! At least it will be a "spine" of players accustomed to playing together as a starting point.

I dread to think of the standard of loan players we'll have to scrape together. We struggled enough in L2 having to take loanees of other L2 clubs. Though I suspect the ones we've had on loan will be released as none of them have main an impact at Morecambe, and they clearly havn't made an impact at other clubs either. If they're released from their home clubs, we may be able to pick up 1 or 2. Dackers for example hasn't shown anything in L2, but he scored for us against lower league/reserve teams, so has "something" to offer - maybe worth a punt at NL level if he's released. Maybe the same for Jones? Our stand out loanee has been Williams, but there's no way he'll sign for a NL team or be loaned out to us in NL!

Seems to be a contradiction somewhere. Lancaster Guardian said DA?was already working with his Recruutment guy towards next season. Andcyet in thua highly personal and emotional interview he says that he can't have any plans until the BoDs and the owner get their acts together. I'm confused.

If Dackers is released (he will be), I wouldn't be too upset to see him return. I feel a bit sorry for him. He started game after game, playing up front on his own, then when we started playing three up front, he got dropped. He rarely (if ever?) started with others playing off him, AND Adam Lewis starting too. Our best crosser of the ball and tallest player were rarely on the pitch at the same time. He's also quite skilful when the ball is at his feet. He's just not, in my opinion, a classic 'target man'.

Derek's post match interview today was full of 'frustration', bordering on anger, saying something like 'they up there, haven't got a plan for next season', so something may have gone on?

The way things have been going recently I tend to believe Derek rather than the board. I've always been under the impression that the board are playing for time. Derek needs to know now so he can plan for next season.
