Academy?

Academy?

Postby Keith » Sat Apr 19, 2025 11:23 am

Anyone know what happens to the Academy now?

It used to be that non-League sides weren't able to have an Academy. That may have changed at some point, but if it has, I missed that news. They can have a 'youth set up', but there is minimal (no?) additional funding for them, so we will be losing a lot of money for development.

Will the Academy have to close? What happens now to players already with us, who were looking to go into their next year?

How many jobs are at risk?

Yes, National League teams can have football academies, with the National League Football Academy being a specific initiative aimed at developing youth players. The National League also has the National League U19 Alliance, which is a competition for under-19 teams from National League clubs and other related organizations.

How is it funded? Will it attract the same funding as it currently does?

Do we still have a category 3 academy? I remember it feeling like a good achievement to achieve that level - I wonder if we will have to downgrade.

Not really in the know about academies. However, it doesn't appear that ours has produced that many EFL standard players. In purely football terms, would it be a great loss if it went?

Lief Davis & Adam Mayor? I think we had another young lad go from the Academy to a Premier League Academy for a fee, but not sure of the details.

Snowball, Fairclough and perhaps one or two more may make the first team soon.

How long has the academy been running and how many staff are required to run it? Sounds like just a handful of players developed that have made our first team or gone on to bigger and better things. Sounds to me that it hasn't achieved what we hoped.
