Players - Next season

Players - Next season

Postby Redalert1970 » Sat Apr 19, 2025 8:10 am

I know it's down to what budget we will have next season but what players would you like to keep from this season...

I would like to keep the following if possible (just my opinion)

Songo
White
Lewis (Adam)
Taylor
Angol
Burgoyne
Stott
Hendrie

Build a team around these 8 players

They'll all be released after the final game. I'd be surprised if we keep any of them. The new manager will be starting from scratch again. Maybe if DA stays, Yann and Slew may stay as their ages are now against them for a new start anywhere else and they do tend to follow DA, and could still do a job in a lower league. The rest of them will probably find new clubs rather than waiting a couple of months for Morecambe to get their act together.

Derek’s mentioned that we already have players who have activated extensions in their contracts (presuming due to a number of appearances being met), and we have Edwards under contract as well. Although it wouldn’t surprise me if he misses a good chunk of next season - his injury vs Port Vale looked horrible, could easily keep him out until 2026 if it’s his ACL.

I’d imagine those with appearance clauses have it at around 25/30 appearances, but beyond that it’s guesswork as to who has what exactly. I’d be happy to keep:

Hendrie
Stott
Taylor (done ok and should be fine in the NL)
Tutonda (let himself down yesterday but should be a very good LB at NL level)
Songo’o
Macadam
White
Fairclough
Angol (if we can)

Could take or leave either Burgoyne/Schofield, but we’d need a better/more consistently available No1. Moore’s great but just can’t count on his fitness. I’d be fine with Slew as a squad player. Wouldn’t be horrified by Tollitt staying as he could be effective in NL.

I presume there were clauses built into extensions for if we were relegated.
No way can we keep paying them the salary they got this season under the current financial situation.

I think everyone will go and the ones with extensions we will try and moved on due to their wages.

We will then be looking to bring in players who are mid national league north standard at best.

I know it's only words but I would be shocked if Tom White walked away from the club

He seems to love the fans and he just gets the club

No one knows what the budget will be or who will he manager or owner so it's a waiting game

He can love the club and fans, but that doesn't pay his mortgage. If he can get more money at a League Two side (Harrogate? Tranmere?) then he'll do that.

I would expect everyone to be released. Even those with a trigger in their contracts probably have a relegation clause in it.

I'd play the fringe younger players in the remaining three League games to give them experience and hope they are good enough for National League. I'd keep Slew & Songo'o as the experienced heads. I doubt if either of them will find a Football League side to go to, so a National League, relegation scrap may suit them. Burgoyne has improved as the season has gone on and was my MotM at Bromley. He's probably National League standard, and probably won't get another League club, so he may be worth keeping.

I know I've asked this before, but where is Saul Fox-Akande? He was injured early in the season, but never mentioned since? He looked promising.

Other than those, who I'd 'like' to keep, and who I think we 'will' keep, or even 'afford to keep' are completely different matters.

I cant believe reading some of the comments on here, and the reality

We'll just end up getting players on loan from the likes of Lancaster, if we don't take action #napm

According to Derek, our budget this season is "bottom half" of the National League. It was a League Two budget in League One, so expecting anything competitive next season is 'unlikely' given our previous experiences. Even without a Not a Penny More campaign, income will be massively reduced next season. Not a hope of the playing budget being even the same as this season.

Think we should wait and see what the budget will be instead of speculating

I don't expect it to be massive but no one knows yet

You aren't seriously expecting it to be the same as this season's?

Less than 'bottom half' of National League is the best we can aim for.
Genuinely if it was up to me, I would be looking at returning to semi-professional until the ownership mess is resolved rather than wracking up more debt and still being uncompetitive.

There is absolutely no way with this rat running the club we have an increased playing budget next season. Anyone who thinks this. Please give me your reasoning as to why you think this.

Where is your proof of this. Some seem to conveniently forget who has been keeping our club alive for all these years. I want him out even just for a change in direction but nobody on this forum has any idea
about next seasons budget.. including myself.

Don't think anyone said it will be increasing or decreasing

You seemed to think a sale of the club was close a couple of weeks ago. Are we any further ahead with that can you report?

The parachute payment for going out of the EFL to the National League as far as I can find out is 100% of this years payment for next season (the year after 50%).

The Premiership payment 2024-25 for EFL League 2 was £430,000, so that is what the parachute payment should be.

You then add on ticket sales, sponsorship, Hospitality/Corporate income, Shop Sales and other income and whatever the funding our owner gives us, what will all that come too? What will it buy us to be competitive? Who will we attract?

The first priority must be something we never had this year! and that’s a forward that will get in the region of 20 goals a season.

Redrobbo, When we are finally sold, Whittingham will be able to say; told you so! and his flock of sheep will bleat in approval.

Yes at some point Morecambe FC will be sold, it’s when, how and why and who too?? and when it’s sold the NAPM campaigners will come back, they have not stoped supporting the Club, they believe it’s the best way to get rid of our current owner. Hopefully after May 3rd it will be done in the 90+ days till the new season and that will be great. We will be there with the rest of the fans.

On contracts, will you be getting one or are you just expecting one?
