2008/9 - how did we do?

Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

Although it has already been posted and does come over a bit negative I hope
the management do not adopt a mindset of a team finishing 11th when in skill/ability we finished 14th. Had it not been for the points deductions there would probably not have been any realistic talk of play offs. However 14th place is still a decent return considering the clutch of bad close season signings by the manager and I am reliably informed he was stitched up by Bury with Parrish.
I am also surprised we have not released more but was informed several possibilities still have a year left on contract. When I enquired how the teams who finished above us manage to get around this (releasing 10 or more) I was told they make those still on contract available for transfer. I suspect some MFC players have already informed the manager that they insist on seeing out their contract. Realistically players like Curtis, Parrish, Mclachlan, Twiss or Hunter realise that there is unlikely to be any offers for them within League 2 which would only leave non league as an option.

I think we've had a good solid season.

Some players at other clubs have been released. Others have been made available for transfer. We have also made players available for transfer in the past and, as you say, they haven't got fixed up. If we bring the players in that Sammy is after then I'm sure he'd listen to any transfer offers for a few more of our players still on contracts.
Not quite sure what point you're making there, Ned.

If by referring to our 'actual' league position you are urging us not to get carried away with 'nearly making the play-off' then I'd agree (and I'm sure the club does).

I think, just to maintain our mid-table status, we'll need to do what Sammy says and improve the squad by a few players. The players you mention would, if that happens with more success than it did last season, become decent cover - which every team needs.

Well I think Sammy might have a bit of a clear out at the end of the upcoming season. A lot of contracts up then and we'll be going into the new stadium as a solid league side looking to push even higher up the footballing pyramid.

I shouldn't bite, but thank you once again Simple Ned.

It's a game of opinions and it is my opinion Garry Hunter gave many outstanding performances this season and we really missed him in the final push when he was not available. Wayne Curtis, although sometimes clumsy, works his socks off for the team. Fraser Maclachlan has shown when fit has the ability to break up play of any attacking opposition and is worth keeping; and with Parrish, I don't think he has been given sufficient opportunity to establish himself yet and Sammy has let it be known anyway he is looking for a right-back. You seem to forget we are a small club in progressive development. But your hopes are always negative

I agree with the sentiments of your post there.

However I have to say I doubt if we released those players that they'd get into another league two club, I'm not sure why, it may be the stigma of being released by Morecambe or that they do such a specialised job for morecambe that they don't fit into many other managers plans. Either way the fact that we haven't sold any players to league 2 clubs or had any of our released lads go to league 2 clubs which suggests that ned is right on that point.

From my point of view though, if they're good enough for Sammy they're definitely good enough for league 2.

"stitched up by Bury with Parrish."

Give the youngster a chance I.M.O. - nothing that a few extra calories can't sort out!

When he struck that winning penalty at Oldham it put a smile to many a face :D
