This April marks 50 years since our first win at Wembley, and, the Former Players Association are holding an event to commemorate with many of the team attending and a special guest speaker.

I was there that day and as always winning is fantastic. If I am right it was a record crowd at that time for the final. I was supposed to go on a coach but missed it, I managed to get a train and met some lads I went to school with. So disappointing when seeing the state of the old Wembley. A few beers, singing our heads off, chanting and winning.

Mr Richmond was my ex sports teacher at Ripley, great teacher. He scored along with Sutton in a 2-1 win.

I remember the Dartford fans had run round after the final whistle, we were celebrating and they had come in behind us. I was at the front throwing very young children onto the Wembley Pitch and the security was pushing them back.

After leaving to get back to Euston our little group of 10 we were ambushed by other supporter and chased down a dead end with a 8ft wall. My mate said right let’s have them, so I though *hi* or bust, I turned round and he was climbing over the wall another 4 joining him, I was up and over in a flash.

A great day, never forgotten, good on the Club doing this.

That's the best footage I have seen of that famous day. Tony Webber was unplayable that day , very much a right footed Michael Twiss with a terrific shot , sadly passed away not many years ago.

The film shown on the link above will be on the big screen and the TVs on the night, there are a few things planned during the event itself, so £30 for a two course meal and a chance to meet and talk to John Coates, Mucker Pearson, Jeff Street, Steve Done, Jimmy Sutton, Barry Kershaw player manager Dave Roberts and of course Keith Galley, is good value? Fans will also get the chance to share some memories from the epic bus and train journeys and down in London itself.
Hopefully the 74 chaps will be at the FGR game the following day also so another chance to celebrate the first Wembley win.
The club have been very proactive in making this happen alongside the Former Players Association, Les Taylor and the committee have spent a lot of time hunting down surviving players with great effect.
Tickets on sale and they are limited for a lovely celebration of some real Shrimp legends.

Nice one Martin - my old fella went all over watching Morecambe in the Combination/NPL days, I’ll stick those on the telly the next time he comes round.
